Are You Maturing?

Therefore, let us leave the elementary teaching about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, faith in God, teaching about ritual washings, laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. Hebrews 6:1-2.

Growth, evolution, and maturity are essential to being a follower of Jesus who is out in the World bringing others to Christ.

Here's a simple truth: People care more about what you do than what you say.

Hebrews 6:1-2 reminds us of our obligation to not only know the foundational doctrine (aka “elementary teachings”) of our faith but become mature in our faith.

As business owners and leaders, we have a unique opportunity to show our ever-evolving maturity in Christ. The influential power of our businesses provides a platform on which we can evolve from quoting religious doctrine that tell people what we believe, to demonstrating our faith and beliefs through modeling the character of Christ through our actions.

The evolution of our …

—> love for people

—> empathy for people

—> compassion for people

—> commitment to exchanging value for money

—> dedication to giving more than we take

—> responsibility for the well-being of those impacted by our presence

—> reputation for doing everything in excellence

—> integrity in leadership

should all show our maturity in moving beyond what we say as Christians to what we do as leaders who follow Christ.

When our actions reflect the character and love of Christ, our business will grow, mature and flourish in a way that gives God all glory and make others curious to know more about the God we serve.

WHAT'S NEXT?

For at least three times today, before you take an action or make a decision, pause and ask yourself, “How would Jesus do this?”. Write down your answers, keeping the character traits that I listed above in mind. Then, move forward accordingly showing your maturity in Christ.
