Some founders, owners, and leaders (and other Believers too) can dishonor God and create a lot of damage at Work when what they say about God doesn't match what they do as leaders in business.
These leaders trust and believe in God for themselves, and may even share the good news with others in a distanced and slightly impersonal way. However, they are known for, on the turn of a dime, engaging in petty gossip or behavior with the people who work with or for them.
Don't be one of these people.
Double-talk and petty behavior neither glorifies God nor leads to building a team that serves people well while honoring God faithfully. Petty behavior is mean, not funny.
As a leader:
- Create a culture that penalizes (not rewards) petty behavior from others in your organization by what you do and say.
- Find ways to recognize people for being helpful.
- Create conditions that make people feel comfortable asking for help or bringing problems to the attention of the right people.
The more collaborative you build the Work culture to be, the more productive people will become and the greater the name of Jesus will be glorified through actions, not sullied through deeds.
Activate Your Biblically-Sound, Business Thinking:
As you lead others, remember these things:
- What you do, others will follow.
- What you penalize, others will avoid.
- What you reward, others will strive to achieve.

Petty behavior, such as gossiping, is so toxic, especially at the work place! I admit, in the past, it was very hard to refrain from gossiping as it kind of feels in that moment like you are connecting with the people around you, but this is all a grand facade as it will backfire eventually. I wish I wouldn’t have gossiped so much back in high school!
As a leader, it’s important to be a role model, and that especially applies in business. Business owners and even employees should all follow these rules to live by though!
