Don’t Forget Why You Are Doing It

Don’t forget why you are doing it.

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.

Just as I also try to please everyone in everything, not seeking my own benefit, but the benefit of many, so that they may be saved.

Imitate me, as I also imitate Christ.

1 Corinthians 10:31; 11:1

Leadership in business provides lots of opportunities to impact lives, provide opportunities, give direction and build wealth. There are lots of ways to get from where you are to the vision God has revealed to you about business … and lots of people with advice (some good, others bad) along the way.

1 Corinthians 10:31 and 11:1 provides solid advice for business leaders (like you) who are innovating new ways to accomplish things; breaking out of the box of how things have always been done; and, having an impact on the lives of clients, customers, staff, suppliers and your entire industry along the way.

Your Next Steps

First … regardless of whether you are operating within defined rules/regulations or pushing the envelope on what others deem acceptable always consider God’s reputation in how you do what you do. Never forget that your business is for the glory of God. Keep in mind that God is glorified in how you do what you do, not just in what you say.

Then … consider the impact of your actions on every group of people that sees or interacts with your business. As a business leader who follows Jesus, you have a special obligation to ensure that your programs, products, services, and operational best practices benefit not just yourself, but the people God has called to be served by your Work. Always remember that you are not building wealth just for you, but to be of service to God’s kingdom.

Finally … know that as a leader people watching you and intimating you; don’t be nervous or arrogant about it. Instead, imitate Christ so the people watching you, learning from you, and imitating you can be led to Christ by you.
