A practice I’ve developed over the years is investing time after an experience considering what I’ve learned and take with me.
Last weekend, I had the opportunity to attend a business networking event sponsored by Beyonce's BeyGood Foundation and also invest more than three hours waiting, singing and dancing in the rain as Beyonce gave the audience her whole heart through an extraordinary performance … in a downpour.
Reflecting upon the weekend, I've distilled these takeaways that I am carrying with me and now sharing with you.
1. Surround yourself with people who are extraordinary at what they do and are also filled with grace and gratitude.
Your team represents your brand, your brand reflects your values, and your values reflect your heart.
The BeyGood Business Networker was second to none, and her publicist (an AMAZING and EXTRAORDINARY woman in her own right), BeyGood Foundation president, drummer, and background singer in attendance could not have been more generous with their time and attention.
Who is on your team? Choose wisely, then take great care of those who are taking care of you and your brand.
2. Show up for the people who show up for you with (i) your whole heart and with (ii) excellence that is authentic to who God has called you to be and what He has called you to do.
When you show up authentically with excellence and gratitude, the people attracted to your light will give their love and appreciation to you right back … and you’ll inspire them through your example in ways you’ll never directly know.
Beyonce gave one of her best performances … in the pouring rain, and the crowd gave extraordinary energy and love to her right back … in the pouring rain.
To show up in excellence when conditions are not only less than ideal but terrible, doesn’t just happen – it takes preparation through planning and practice. How are you planning to show up for the people who show up for you when conditions make you feel like doing otherwise?
3. Look for ways to give, give, give, and then give some more through both (1) charging for value + impact and (2) giving with heart + savvy.
Charge well, so you have the capacity to live well while serving well too. Give generously, so others are served well and inspired to give well too. This process is how we generate significant revenue while serving in a way that creates impact and builds legacy.
Tickets to Beyonce’s Renaissance World Tour were not inexpensive and the concert merchandise was pricy indeed. The combination of her talent, work ethic, business savvy, and loyal fans affords her what looks to be an incredible lifestyle and also the capacity to give back to her community in various ways. It is possible to live well and serve well too.
How are you activating the practice of charging for value (not budget) and giving generously (and with business savvy) into your life and business?
4. Excellence begets excellence.
Celebrities, entertainers, entrepreneurs, business executives, and others who’ve accomplished great things show up for Beyonce in concert not only to be entertained (and connect with other change-makers) but to also be inspired in their own endeavors. Her attention to detail in every element of her show and precision in bringing her vision to life (despite technical snafus, challenging weather, poor stadium management, or other things beyond her control) inspires creativity and the spirit of excellence in those with a heart and desire for the same.
Think about your own business endeavors. What are you doing with excellence that can inspire the excellence in those around you?
There you have some of what I've gathered from the 2023 Beyonce world tour experience that I’m taking with me and sharing with you.
Regardless of whether you are a Beyonce fan, critic, neutral observer, or a combination of the three – I hope what you’ve read here will be of service as you move forward with generosity, grace, and gratitude in influencing and impacting the marketplace as God has uniquely equipped you to do.
