Business Focus:

Launching New Initiatives. Evaluating the Effectiveness of Current Initiatives.

CHARACTERpreneur™ Attribute:

Be courageous.

Reference:

And he told them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the sight of others, but God knows your heart. For what is highly admired by people is revolting in God's sight.” Luke 16:14-18

Lesson:

Get clear about why everything is being done in your business (e.g., projects, programs, services, initiatives, systems, processes …).

It is easy to be like the Pharisees in Luke 16:14-18 and get caught up in the admiration and validation of people around you. Getting “caught up” leads to being influenced to take actions (and make false representations) based on what you think, others think, are signs of success.

Worrying about what people think puts you on the fast track to destruction. Here's why … what people think is worthy of praise can be drastically different from what God says is worthy of praise. People are often caught up with what “appears” to be the fruit of your life.

Sadly, what some people consider “fruit” or “harvest” is neither of these things, but instead an ill-gotten trapping. People cannot tell the difference between fruit, harvest, and materialistic trappings, but God can.

God cares about both your intention and your faithful action. When you first seek him, all other things will be added to you. “All things” includes fruit and a harvest from heaven that glories Jesus and serves humans.

Disciplined Action:

Be courageous enough to free yourself from the opinions of others. Check your heart in every decision you make, action you take, and process/system you create.

Ask yourself 5 key questions before launching any initiative and when evaluating current ones:

  1. Why am I doing this?
  2. Who does this honor?
  3. Who does this serve?
  4. Would Jesus be pleased with my intention?
  5. How is God being glorified in the action/behavior?

Let your answers guide your action.
