Who are you trying to please?

Share in the suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the concerns of civilian life; he seeks to please the commanding officer. Also, if anyone competes as an athlete, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to get a share of the crops. Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything. ~ 2 Timothy 2:3-7

As a business leader, our days are filled with decisions from which a specific result is desired. It's very easy to focus our desired results on worldly indicators of success, and not those that please Jesus.

When you lose sight of God in the decision-making process, it becomes real easy to “do whatever it takes” to accomplish your goals … regardless of whether “whatever it takes” is decent, in order, and glorifies Christ.

Second Timothy reminds us that it is important to focus our attention on: (i) who we are seeking to impress; (ii) the rules of engagement for demonstrating our love for Christ; and (iii) sowing seeds of good works for Christ so that we can enjoy the harvest from what we sow.

What's Next?

Here's how you can bring this passage of scripture alive in your business and life:

  1. Focus your attention on making decisions that please God, not humans.
  2. Demonstrate your love Jesus Christ by letting Christlike character traits guide your decision-making process. We cover these traits extensively in the FaithFocusFlow™ Leaders Institute.
  3. Be diligent in doing good works so that you'll enjoy (and not be dismayed by) the first fruits of what you sow.

Record how you are activating these tips into your life. Use our My Daily Walk with Christ Journal and SMART Goal Planner to help. Check them out in our resource center at www.FaithFocusFlow.com.
