What Are We Dwelling On?

  • Save

What are you dwelling on?

Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable – if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy – dwell on these things. Do what you have learned and received and heard from me, and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9

We live in a world with seen and unseen dangers, this is true. BUT, we serve a God who has already conquered the world and everything in it. AND, Jesus Christ loves us so much He left instructions for how to navigate the dangers of business with a spirit of peace and joy that brings light to everyone whose path we cross.

Instructions for living with the peace of God are right here in Philippians 4:8-9 for each of us to see, internalize and live out. This is a passage in the Bible so powerful it's worthy of our study, re-study and re-study some more. Our constant study allows us to fully live-out the lessons within this passage to experience the peace God has for each of us.

Let's dig in …

We've got to understand what is means to “dwell” before we can really internalize and implement the lessons in this passage of Philippians into our businesses.

I don't speak Hebrew or Greek … so, I'll give you the English definition. 🙂 This biblical concept, however, is worth taking to your pastor for further clarification.

I‘m adding “focus” to this list. To “dwell” is also to focus.

Here's how all business leaders can integrate Philippians 4:8-9 into growing a business that glorifies Christ, serves people and builds wealth:

1. Correct all intentional or unintentional lies associated with your business in all things, including advertising, promises, and descriptions – but dwell on what is true.

2. Address what is not honorable in your business to restore it to what pleases God – but dwell on what is honorable.

3. Fix what is unfair in your business so that God is glorified in all your actions – but dwell on what is just.

4. Clean up un-pure motives, values, and mission in your business, so the light of God is evident in all things – but dwell on what is pure.

5. Do not ignore immorality where it exists, address it – but dwell on exhibiting moral excellence at all times.

6. Do not be concerned about pop culture or pleasing any person. Instead, dwell on doing what the Bible teaches.

7. Do not become distracted by your emotions. Instead, dwell on modeling Christlike character in all things.

What's Next?

Implement these Bible-based strategies into your life, and you'll experience the peace of God throughout your day and night, regardless of what is happening around you. You'll have peace, even while God is in the midst of making what looks terrible in the natural work in your favor.
