Avoid the penalty or pay the price.

For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them, but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster. Proverbs 1:32-33.

This warning from the book of Proverbs is of valid concern in our personal lives and provides a useful analogy for what happens when we “turn away” from doing the things that matter most in our Work too.

There is a penalty and a price to pay for being simple and complacent at Work. When we turn away from what really matters, our Work through business dies. YIKES!

Here's how to avoid this tragic end by cultivating and activating your biblically-sound, business thinking:

Do not be simple (as described by analogy in the Word) by ignoring or abandoning what your target market shows or tells you to do instead what you think is best based on your feelings, not data and feedback.

  • Similar to how we must listen to and obey God as Believers who follow Christ – as founders, owners, and leaders in business, we must listen to the people our Work serves (staff, clients, customers, industry) and then take action.

Do not be complacent by foolishly doing what has always been done, with no innovation ever. Instead, be committed to continuously add value that satisfies, thrills, and delights (do all three) your people.

  • Focus on innovation that creates and inspires transformation and renewal. You can do this, regardless of the industry in which you Work.

Once you know what your people really want and need from your Work, and you know you've been called to deliver what's desired and needed, make it happen. No excuses.

  • Fail to act on what you learn, and you may find your clients specifically and the interest of your target market in general, captivated, and then swooped up by competitors that are listening and acting on what they learn.

Know these four things:

  1. The more consistently you upgrade the value provided by your Work through listening to your clients, customers, staff, and target market (not the opinions of random people), the more significant your impact.
  2. The more significant the impact of your Work, the more influential your brand, leading to more magnetic offers that your people and organizations cannot resist or refuse.
  3. The more consistently your people and organizations say yes to your magnetic offers, the more secure your Work through business becomes.
  4. The more secure your Work (because you've implemented systems for continuous feedback and upgrades), the better you'll sleep at night without dread of impending disaster at Work.

Now that you know, what will you do?

Sidebar – I've referenced “your people” several times in this post. “Your people” are those people served by either the impact of your Work or influence of how you Work. In most cases, you will never know who you are influencing and have influenced. So, make it your mode of operandi always to do the right things for the right reasons.

Innovation will yield more attraction long term! People love new things. I’m totally in agreement with what you said, just brilliant words imo!

I can sleep a lot better when I know there are no work conflicts. It really wears on your soul when you dread of something to deal with at the workplace.
